Mecca Productions is proud to debut the musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, October 19-21, 2017 at the WMCA.
Based on the 1996 Disney animated movie, the score and story were reworked in 2014 by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, the team behind the Academy Award-nominated soundtrack. Alan Menken has created some of the most well-known music of our time including Beauty and The Beast, Stephen Schwartz is best known as the composer and lyricist of Wicked. The two until to create some very special in the world of live theatre - this NEW adaptation of Quasi Modo's story. Peter Parnell's new book for the stage musical draws directly from Hugo's original work creating a powerful story about love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.
While we can't wait to hear our cast bring the songs you know and love ('Out There', 'God Help the Outcasts', 'Topsy Turvy') bought to life by our cast and live orchestra! What we are most excited about is selections of the soundtrack that have been transformed into an incredible choral work.
We are delighted to have enlisted Deanna Ginn and some of the men of Prairie Blend to bring this aspect of the show to life. They will be joined in the SATB choir by some of of Mecca's most experienced female choristers to create a one-of-a-kind musical experience.
Fall 2017 marks Mecca Production's 16th year of bringing a musical to the WMCA. Mecca is recognized for large-cast shows with strong vocals, performances and choreography Hunchback of Notre Dame requires the Mecca team to take their skills to a new level. With a powerful story, beautiful music, a 20 choir mixed choir, a live orchestra, period costumes, a large cast, incredible sets and a powerful story that rivals Les Miserables in its scope and power, Hunchback of Notre Dame is a show like no other!
